This article briefly discusses the principles of definition and selection of neologisms. The words selected for Western Armenian neologisms should not be recorded in previous Armenian dictionaries, including Eastern Armenian dictionaries. An exception should be made only for the newest dictionaries of Eastern Armenian neologisms, because now it is sometimes difficult to determine exactly whether the neologism was first created in Eastern Armenian or in Western Armenian.

        Semantic neologisms should also be presented as head words in the dictionary.

Head words should be given in the original spelling which is mostly the traditional or old spelling. In the illustrative examples, the original punctuation is preserved.

Minimal information is given about grammar and stylistics of the Western Armenian neologisms. The meanings of neologisms mentioned in the original copy are explained only. Possible meanings not supported by the original evidence are not included in the dictionary.

Examples given by the authors should be excluded in such dictionaries. The covered material must have a strictly factual source with specific reference to the original text.
