The article was prepared within the framework of the “Documents of an Educated Nation” competition announced in 2023 by the Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University and the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, as a project work and an example of lecturer-student collaboration.
The article discusses matters related to the establishment and activities of the Getronagan Armenian High School in Istanbul (Constantinople), Turkey. The history of the High School has been analysed against the backdrop of geopolitical and literary-cultural events. Eminent scholars and alumni of the High School have been presented. Matters concerning the High School management, curricula and their alignment with contemporary educational standards have been characterised. The current activity of the High School has been presented as a significant educational and cultural establishment in the context of modern world challenges. The cooperation of the High School and Kh. Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University has been observed in the context of the relationship between the homeland and the Diaspora as well as from the perspective of educational and cultural interaction.
The work is written using a historical-comparative method. The educational activities of the Getronagan Armenian High School are presented within the context of contemporary understandings of educational standards.
