FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM OF UPBRINGING AND EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS FOR GIRLS IN WESTERN ARMENIA (XIX CENTURY)

Abstract

          In the article, we briefly presented the Armenian intellectuals who left a significant mark in the social and cultural life of the period up to the 19th century, observed their views, highlighted their achievements, particularly in formation and upbringing of the image of the Armenian woman. We studied and presented the features of the educational activities of a number of women's colleges in Western Armenia, we emphasized their invaluable role and importance not only in preserving, maintaining and nurturing the national identity, but also in realizing the need to achieve equality in rights and freedom through the education of Armenian women as a full-fledged member of society. The article addresses the important mission of female colleges of the period, highlighting not only their educational traditions, but also the social inequality and discriminatory attitude towards children from poor families. Eminent scholars and alumni of the High School have been presented. Matters concerning the High School management, curricula and their alignment with contemporary educational standards have been characterised.
