The article is based on printed sources available on the site, memoirs of contemporaries, materials extracted from the press of the time and later periods, and various studies published in the Diaspora and Armenia in different years.
In 1905-1906, turbulent events took place in the Transcaucasus, which for a certain period of time drew the attention of all Armenians to the problems of the Armenians of the Caucasus. The various problems accumulated over the centuries in the relations of the Armenian and Tatar populations living side by side, thanks to the provocative policy of the tsarist authorities, manifested themselves in all their shades, making the main issue of the agenda the issues of the struggle for existence and the organization of effective self-defense of the Armenians of the Caucasus. The conflicts had quite serious and deep-rooted religious, economic, political, cultural, national-psychological reasons.
The Armenians of the Caucasus went through a period of difficult but honorable trials in those years. They suffered heavy human and material losses, but they also received the necessary lessons of self-confidence and national dignity. The study of these events that took place more than a century ago has not lost its relevance today. The current Artsakh problem, the Armenian-Azerbaijani unfriendly relations, definitely keep the historical events of the not-so-distant past in the spotlight. Their comprehensive knowledge allows us to clearly explain the real roots of current Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and to predict possible developments in the near future.
